Açaí Berry
What It Is
Acai (pronounced “ah-sigh-ee”) is a small, dark purple berry that grows on acai palm trees in Central and South America where it is considered a staple food. Often referred to as an Amazonian "superfood," the acai berry is rich in powerful antioxidants, particularly a group of flavonoids known as anthocyanins, which give acai berries their beautiful deep purple color. Research shows that acai berries are higher in antioxidants than other berries, including blueberries, cranberries, and blackberries.
